It is widely known that the best time to visit the general region is anywhere between November and February. The months before that often get quite rainy, and the months after is where the heat gets pretty extreme. When you get more specific to your destination, the weather can change, (eg North of Vietnam has different weather to the South).

You can use the cheap flights to jump between countries, however the bone of backpacking comes with the buses, more specifically the sleeper buses. If that’s too bougie for you, there is some train connectivity between some major cities.

The backpacker culture in Southeast Asia is second to none. There is an endless amount of incredibly cheap hostels, all suited for different types of travelers. You can constantly meet new people if you want to, and most accoms have easy access to tours, events, and adventure activities.
