The Best Places to Visit in Kuwait

Kuwait is an interesting little country in the Middle East, wedged between Saudi Arabia and Iraq with coastline on the Persian Gulf. Kuwait has two pretty interesting things it’s often known for: The first being that it has the worlds strongest currency, the Kuwaiti Dinar, and the second being that it has the hottest capital city and large settlement on earth. In the summer months temperature is always hovering around the 50 Celsius mark. It’s a classic gulf country with extreme wealth (thanks to oil), skyscrapers everywhere, and extreme modernization all through the country. There isn’t much outside Kuwait City, so I’ll just stick to that.
Capital: Kuwait City
Currency: Kuwaiti Dinar
Language: Arabic
When to visit:
April to May, October to November

1) Kuwait City

Kuwait City is the ultra modern capital city of the country. It sits on the coast of the Persian Gulf, with over 3 million residents living in the city’s metro area. Over 70% of the residents are expats, mainly from Asian countries, so it is diverse in terms of language and culture. It’s not the most walkable place on earth by any means, but Uber/Careem are cheap to help you get around and explore.

Things to do:
The city’s most iconic landmark is the Kuwait Towers, which are 3 uniquely designed towers sitting by the coast, one of which containing an elevator and a viewpoint. If you want to see some traditional Islamic architecture, the Grand Mosque of Kuwait is one of the biggest, and has a luxurious interior. For a more traditional experience, Souk Al-Mubarakiya sells everything you’d expect - spices, garments, etc. The Avenues Mall is one of the biggest in the Middle East too, and for sure a great place to go when it gets scorching hot outside.

How to get there:
Kuwait International Airport (KWI) will be your gateway, flights often come in from Asia/Middle East.
