The Best Places to Visit in Grenada

Grenada, also known as the ‘Isle of Spice’ in the Caribbean, is found in the south west region of the islands, somewhat close to Venezuela. It’s a small nation in both size and population, and the official language is English. As a country, it has a pretty mountainous terrain. Combining that with the beaches and resorts, it’s a great tourist destination. It consists of one main island (Grenada) and many smaller islands to the north. It has a mix of African, French and British influence which can be seen throughout the region.

1) St. Georges

St. George’s is often hailed as the most beautiful harbor in the Caribbean, and once you see it, it’s easy to see why. The city is dotted with colorful, Georgian-inspired buildings and overlooks the sparkling waters of St. George’s Bay. Its distinctive horseshoe-shaped harbor is framed by gentle hills, and the city feels alive with boats constantly coming and going, adding a lively, bustling charm to the waterfront.

Things to do:
When here, visit the two most famous forts; Fort George and Fort Frederick. Both have great viewing points, with Fort Frederick being the highest on the hill. Wander through the markets and you’ll see locals selling food and spices. As you do that, admire the colorful architecture which makes this city what it is.

How to get there:
Maurice Bishop International Airport (GND) is Grenada’s main airport as a whole. It connects Grenada with the Caribbean and the US.
Most Caribbean cruises often stop in at St. Georges harbor, and it’s likely this is how you find yourself here.

2) Grand Anse Beach

Grand Anse beach is one of Grenada’s world renowned beach, featuring 3km of soft white sand and crystal-clear turquoise waters. It’s the perfect place to swim and relax, as well as engage in activities like kayaking or paddleboarding.

Where is it:
It’s less than 10km from the capital, in the south-west of Grenada’s main island.

How to get there:
Take a taxi or public minibus from St. Georges to the beach.

3) Levera Beach

While being a nice beach to swim at, Levera Beach is more famous for its surrounding natural beauty. Mangroves and wetlands cover the area, while ‘Sugar Loaf Island’ proves to be the main sight from the soft sandy beach. Bird and turtle sightings are not unheard of in the area, and overall the vibe is much more peaceful.

Where is it:
It’s found on the northeast tip of the main island, within Levera National Park. Very close by is the village of Bathway.

How to get there:
It’s recommended to take a taxi there.
Alternatively, you can bus from St. Georges to Grenville, then take any bus stopping at/near Bathway.

4) Annandale

Annandale is a quiet, picturesque spot which is most famous for Annandale Falls, a lush waterfall tucked into Grenada’s rainforest. Easily accessible and surrounded by tropical greenery, the falls cascade into a cool natural pool, making the area a favorite stop for both locals and visitors looking to experience Grenada’s natural beauty without traveling far inland.

Where is it:
Annandale area is a bit more in-land of Grenada, about 5km to the northeast of St. Georges.

How to get there:
Take a taxi, or just walk.
