Barbados is a small island and country in the Caribbean, and home to some beautiful white sand beaches and crystal clear water. The locals who live here call themselves Bajans, and they are known for being extremely friendly and hospitable. Barbados appears more upscale than some of its Caribbean counterparts. It has some pretty nice architecture amongst the towns, and tourism fuels the economy here. Many visit Barbados on a cruise, some fly in, either way it’s a dazzling place which nearly 300,000 call home.

1) Bridgetown
Bridgetown is the capital and only real city in Barbados. It's on the southwest coast, right where the Careenage inlet meets the Caribbean Sea. It’s an amazing city, really. it has a small historic core, a lot to do, and some beautiful beaches and ports everyone loves. It was founded in 1628 by the British, and it has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2011 (it’s clear to see why).
Things to do:
The Careenage and the waterfront around it is the main area in the middle of town. You’ll see all the boats and yachts, plus the old lift bridge called Chamberlain Bridge. In the center you’ll also see St. Michael’s Cathedral, the main church where the flag flies high. A unique thing you can do in Bridgetown is visit Rihanna Drive. Rihanna was born here on this backstreet in Bridgetown, and you can now walk past her home. The street was renamed in her honor. Now for the beaches and the coast. Carlisle Bay is absolutely beautiful with it’s turqoiuse water and white sand, so you have to go here. It has some world-renowned beaches like Pebbles Beach and Brownes Beach. Further along the coast you’ll see Needhams Point, where the lighthouse stands as well as some more beaches. Right by Needhams Point is the historic Garrison Area, which is an area where the old British Military base was set up in the colonial days. George Washington even stayed here for a bit, which is why you can find the George Washington Museum here too.
How to get there:
Grantley Adams International Airport (BGI) is the country’s airport with flights mainly from the American continents.
Many Caribbean cruises will dock in at Bridgetown too, so check any cruise itinerary if that is your plan.
